Prepositions of Place and Direction

Prepositions are brief terms some of which are frequently placed ahead of nouns to indicate the location, placement, duration, or manner of the noun or pronoun being spoken. Prepositions of place and direction indicate an individual's or object's location with respect to another individual or object's location. The most common place and direction prepositions are in, at, on, above, under, from, behind, among, and so on.

Prepositions of Place:

The preposition of place is one preposition that indicates to the location of an entity or individual. Prepositions of place enable us to really be highly particular whenever defining the setting of a story and whenever presenting crucial information for sending messages. Prepositions of place allow us to inform people where something might be.

Examples:

  1. We waited in the line.
  2. The river flows between the two cities.
  3. The car is by the parking.
  4. I sat on the elephant for the first time.
  5. Children were playing at the school.
  6. The cat is hidden in the room.
  7. The guard was standing at the entrance.
  8. The cap was fallen down under the table.
  9. The parade was on the way.
  10. We met them in Italy.

Prepositions of Direction:

Directional prepositions are employed to describe locations and provide consumers with a concept of where a given thing is headed. Although in question regarding how to employ a certain preposition, ask for a dictionary. Direction prepositions are unique in that they indicate motion.

Examples:

  1. The cat and dogs chased after each other.
  2. The kids were playing around the table.
  3. Her gift was inside the box.
  4. They reached up the hills.
  5. We like to collect seashells along the riverbed.
  6. There was garbage across the road.
  7. The glass of water fell down from the table.
  8. Priya carefully comes across the road.
  9. Don't put old clothes into the cupboard.
  10. What did you bring for us from Paris.

Usage of Prepositions of Time:
