Object Pronoun is a type of pronoun that is an essential topic of parts of speech. The direct or indirect object of a verb, the object of a preposition, or both are common uses for this pronoun in grammar. Whether they are direct or indirect object pronouns, these pronouns always accept the objective case.

What is an Object Pronoun?

An object pronoun is a personal pronoun that acts as an object in a sentence. It acts as either the direct object or indirect object of a verb or the object pronoun of a preposition.

Definition of Object Pronoun

A word that receives the action in a sentence is called an object pronoun. It is used to substitute a noun and acts as an object in a sentence.

List of Object Pronouns

There are a few object pronouns available in the English language. The complete list of object pronouns is given below in the table.

Subject Pronoun vs. Object Pronoun

The subject of a sentence employs a subject pronoun. A subject pronoun identifies the subject or object of the phrase. When describing what receives the action in a statement, an object pronoun is used. After the subject in the predicate of a sentence, object pronouns are used.

  • Object pronouns and subject pronouns are the pronouns that are used by either the object or the subject in a sentence. 
  • Object pronoun receives the action in a sentence whereas subject pronoun acts. 
  • Object pronoun acts as an object in a sentence and the subject pronoun acts as the subject in a sentence.

How to Use an Object Pronoun in a Sentence?

Object pronouns are usually used in place of nouns. To avoid the repetition of nouns in a sentence, we generally use these pronouns. It makes a sentence easier and more understandable. This pronoun is also used after a verb or a preposition. When double object pronouns are used in a sentence, the indirect pronoun always comes before the direct pronoun.

The examples of object pronouns in sentences are provided below:

  • Robin always writes e-mails to us.
  • Jane and John met her in the evening.
  • She's talking to her about it.

When to Use Object Pronouns?

An object pronoun is used as an object in a sentence in place of a noun. Object pronouns may be first person, second person, or third person. It may also be singular or plural.
