BNY Mellon Interview Experience For SDE (Off - Campus)

Recently, I gave an Interview for the SDE position at BNY Mellon. Let’s discuss my experience along with the entire hiring process in detail. It’s great that you went through multiple rounds and had a chance to showcase my skills. Here’s a breakdown of each stage:
Round 1 (Online Assessment on HackerEarth):
Conducted on March 4th, 2023.
Duration: 2 hours 30 minutes.
Three coding problems (easy to hard).
Topics covered: Graph (medium), Graph (hard), Arrays + Greedy (easy).
- You need to solve at least 2 questions completely and 1 partially for shortlisting.
- Within a week, I received confirmation for clearing this round.
Round 2 (Online Assessment on HackerEarth):
Held on March 10th, 2023.
Duration: 2 hours 30 minutes.
Components:
- 10 MCQs (CS fundamentals, OS, DBMS).
- 1 SQL question (medium difficulty).
- 1 coding problem (hard difficulty, based on Graph + DP + XOR).
- Language-specific (Java 8 or above, Python).
- I solved the MCQs and SQL questions completely but struggled with the coding problem.
- Despite doubts, you received confirmation for clearing this round within 4 days.
Round 3 (Technical Interview 1):
Scheduled on April 14th, 2023.
Duration: 45 minutes (extended to 1 hour 10 minutes).
- HackerRank code pair round.
- Discussed past internships and projects.
- DSA problem (arrays, medium difficulty): Finding the size of the smallest subarray with K distinct numbers.
- Follow-up problem (Greedy, job scheduling) solved using heaps (priority queue).
- Basic CS fundamentals and DBMS questions.
- Confirmation received for clearing this round.
Round 4 (Technical Interview 2):
Held on May 4th, 2023.
Duration: 45 minutes.
- HackerRank code pair round.
- Introduce yourself and discuss your favourite subject (DSA).
- DSA problem (medium difficulty): Finding the largest subgrid in a given square grid with conditions.
- Optimized solution using Binary Search, Cumulative Sums, and Greedy Algorithms.
- Detailed discussion on past internships and projects.
- Confirmation received for clearing this round.
Round 5 (Technical + Managerial):
The final interview is scheduled for June 2nd, 2023.
Duration: 30 minutes.
- A polite interviewer discussed his work at the company (trading and mutual funds).
- Detailed discussion about your past internships and projects.
- No technical questions; focused on understanding you as an individual.
