Preventing fraud through image analysis
To quickly detect fraud content, we looked for a generative AI model that delivers accurate and consistent text analysis results within the shortest time. During our comparison test, Google Cloud's Gemini 2.5 Pro outperformed other large language models in terms of speed and cost.

A survey conducted in February 2025 shows that 96.8% of Taiwanese people have received fraud messages, and 32.8% of the respondents said that they have been confronted with scam images or voices generated by artificial intelligence (AI).
With more than a decade of experience in fraud prevention, Gogolook has been ramping up its digital fraud detection and risk management services to address these issues and realize its mission of creating a "zero fraud environment." Gogolook's anti-fraud applications have so far blocked more than 10 billion malicious calls and detected five million fake data entries.
"We own the largest phone number database in East and Southeast Asia, which serve as the basis for our anti-fraud solutions," notes Yimin Kao, Director of Data and Business Intelligence at Gogolook. "We've also been using AI and data-driven technologies to bulletproof our services against ever-evolving fraud tactics."
Aiming at helping people effectively identify fraudulent content in various forms, Gogolook decided to add Content Checker to Whoscall, its flagship app that identifies unknown calls and blocks scam SMS. With the new feature, users can upload photos of physical flyers or screenshots of messages they received to analyze them for fraud risk. To quickly deliver the analytics results and protect its users from potential scams, Gogolook needed a generative AI model that responses fast and turned to Google Cloud and Gemini 2.5 Pro.
"Scams come in diverse forms nowadays, so we wanted to build a handy tool for general users to detect fraud risks around them. To quickly detect fraud content, we looked for a generative AI model that delivers accurate and consistent text analysis results within the shortest time," explains Kao. "During our comparison test, Google Cloud's Gemini 2.5 Pro outperformed other large language models in terms of speed and cost."
A simple, AI-enabled way to assess fraud risk in daily lives
In mid-2024, Gogolook launched the Content Checker feature, which relies on Document AI to extract text from images uploaded by users. It then uses Gemini 2.5 Pro in Vertex AI to infer whether the extracted content matches known scam cases. During the product development phase, Google Cloud partner GAIA helped Gogolook to build automated testing pipelines and provided optimization advice for different use scenarios. With this support, the companies were able to reduce the time to market for this new, AI-powered feature.
"GAIA accompanied us through the whole development process from tool selection to performance monitoring. Without its technical support, we wouldn't have been able to launch the new feature in such a short time," says Kao.
Now, whenever a Whoscall user sees something suspicious, they can simply take a photo or a screenshot and upload it in the app for fraud risk assessment.

Document AI will extract relevant content from the image and send the data to Vertex AI for security analysis based on past fraud cases. Within five seconds, the user receives a risk assessment notice that helps them judge the trustworthiness of the content. With a user-friendly interface and consistent accuracy, Content Checker use has quickly grown to reach 5X more users after launching in Taiwan, Thailand, and the Philippines.

Creating a fraud-free environment with AI
Following the initial success of the Content Checker feature, Gogolook plans to make it available in more markets in the near future. It also plans to use AI tools like Text-to-Speech AI and Speech-to-Text to develop voice-related features.
